Harbor's FAQ
Where is the church?
Harbor UMC is located near the Myrtle Grove area of Wilmington (otherwise known as Monkey Junction...don't ask!). Located on Masonboro Loop Road, we are a neighborhood church nestled within the community we serve. You may find directions to the church by clicking on the link to the right.
What makes Harbor UMC unique?
Harbor UMC is a unique community of faith. We offer a wide variety of worship, spiritual growth, and service opportunities. We have three worship services every Sunday morning. All of them offer the Word of God. We also have services and events during the week for people who wish to develop their relationship with Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship, and in-depth biblical teaching. In addition, small groups meet throughout the community, fostering relationships and spiritual growth.
Do I have to be a member of Harbor UMC to take Communion?
We believe that the table is open. Jesus did not ask the disciples if they were members, and neither should we. Everyone is welcome at the communion table, whether members of Harbor UMC or not, kids or adults.
What should I wear to church?
Whatever clothes make you comfortable. You will see men in suits and ties as well as casual sports shirts. “Mortals look on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
How long are services?
The 9:00 and 11:00 services usually last about 60 minutes.
Where do my kids go during the service?
Your kids begin the hour in the sanctuary during the main worship service. Shortly after beginning, the kids are welcome to the front of the sanctuary for a sweet and special moment with the pastor. Afterwards, children ages 3 through 1st grade are invited to Children's Church . Our Sunday School time is from 10:10 am until 10:50. Our children’s ministry provides an exciting experience for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary ages through fifth grade. !
If you have a teenager, they are invited to attend the service with you. Many of our youth often sit together and would welcome having your teenager join them. From 10:10 am until 10:50 am, there is a youth Sunday School class which meets at Harbor House (the building directly behind the sanctuary). There are also student ministries during the week specifically for them on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
